I have to confess, I’ve always been a relationship gal – I love being in love and sharing my life with my favourite person. But not everyone sees long-term relationships that way. Many feel trapped (is this the last person I’ll ever have sex with?!), get bored, or hate the thought of being responsible for someone else’s happiness (or worse, disappointments).

But long-term relationships can be awesome! Here’s why.

It’s comfy. But not in a worn out shoe kinda way. In a warm, fuzzy, ‘let’s snuggle in bed’ kinda way. Lame, I know, but it’s true!

They see the best in your worst. My husband called me a ‘Chihuahua’ the other day – tiny, with bark and bite. But rather than see the bad side, he appreciates my loyalty, persistence and sass.

Staying in is Plan A. When you’re single, staying in on a Friday or Saturday night means scrolling through your Insta feed with major FOMO. When you’re in a long-term relationship, you’re dying for those kinds of weekends, ‘cus it means Netflix and chilling, pizza, and sexy time!

You don’t have to pretend. Unlike when you first get together, you don’t feel like you have to say ‘yes’ to everything. You say it how it is, and you respect each other for it.

You get to split everything financially. Let’s be real, this is a serious advantage! Rent, bills, dinner, holidays – life is way more expensive when flying solo.

They understand you. After a couple of years, your partner can read you like a book, and vice versa. You know when the other needs comforting or to be left alone, or if they’re tired or hangry (hungry/angry is totally a thing!).

You get to share the ride. The ups, the downs, the funnies – everything is more of an adventure when you can take a +1!
